Many fleet businesses in the UAE focus only on visible costs such as fuel, repairs, and salaries. But the bigger problem is often hidden cost.
Hidden fleet costs include vehicle downtime, missed preventive maintenance, over-idling, underutilized vehicles, tyre abuse, poor route planning, overtime due to delays, and loss caused by weak tracking of cost per kilometre.
A vehicle that stands idle for two days may not look expensive, but it still carries fixed cost. Insurance, depreciation, salary, and lost business opportunity continue even when the vehicle is not earning.
Another example is tyre damage. If tyre pressure is not checked properly, the business may face early wear, punctures, and poor fuel efficiency at the same time. One weak control point can create losses in multiple areas.
The companies that control fleet cost well are usually not only the ones spending less. They are the ones measuring more.
